Social Networks

Social networking sites are a classic case of the chicken or egg conundrum. The value proposition of using these sites depends on having all your friends using them too. I wouldn't join a site, however useful it may appear, until my friends are in it. But my friends won't be in it till I invite them in.

Inviting is the Web 2.0 form of spamming and I'm averse to indulging in it. So faced with a few new and interesting social networks, I figured asking here would help. If any of you are already using these sites, or are interested enough to join, please comment. If I see the value proposition rise, I'll join too!

Oh yeah, the sites in question: Dopplr, facebook and friendfeed.

I am on Facebook, as is nearly everybody I know. Out of the three, I would say you should definitely join Facebook.

Facebook is superaddictive! you'll end up logging in early in the morning to read your news feed to find X has woken up, Y is brushing her teeth and Z is still asleep (dont ask how he updated his status while asleep).. on the bright side, you can get lucky like this dude - http://xkcd.com/300/

In orkut you leave people scraps and messages. Facebook allows you to throw fish, sheep, cows and chicken on people... or even use the force on them.. use the force wisely, young Deepak

I am on facebook but don't find it addictive. Let me know if you do join it.

Facebook was addictive. Not anymore. I barely log in these days, preferring to respond to the multiple friends request and app invites once a fortnight.

Dopplr sounds very, very good. I just got me an invite last week. Will send one your way if you want to.

True. Got your mail now. Added as friend. I see the next few months as major travelling times. So, Dopplr has some value for me, with or without friends.
