Google Page Creator

Oh look, it’s Geocities 2.0!

There are probably a million reviews of Google Page Creator out there by now so I won’t go into the what/why/how of it. There’s just one thing that I want to point out.

When you create pages, they are hosted at http://yourgmailusername.googlepages.com/ I think that’s one of the more stupid ideas to come out of Google. How, you ask? Consider two gmail users: antrix@gmail.com and angler.antrix@gmail.com So what are their respective googlepages sites? http://antrix.googlepages.com and http://angler.antrix.googlepages.com

Although the two users are completely unrelated, the latter’s site looks like a legitimate part of the former’s website. They are like our good old subdomains after all!

Phishing anyone?

Update: One more reason why this is a very bad design decision.

PS: Interesting fact - googlepages.com was registered way back in July 2000!
