Yesterday, while reading the mplayer man page for some reason, I noticed a recently introduced flag for the first time: -fixed-vo. What this flag does is to use the same video window to play multiple files so that mplayer *.avi doesn’t cause the destruction and recreation of the video window for each file. Frankly, this was the only reason I had xine installed and with this feature, mplayer has become the only video player I need. Oh wait.. DVD menus! Crap.
