Ms Sonia Gandhi
The election results are in. With the Congress combine getting the majority vote, there’s a lot of talk of Ms Sonia Gandhi becoming India’s next prime minister. It would be unfortunate if that scenario comes to happen.
But if that’s what happens, so be it. If that’s what the people want then that’s what they should get. A democracy is only as good as it’s people. There’s a thought floating around that this isn’t a vote for Sonia, it’s just a vote against the NDA and Sonia happens to be cashing in on it. If that’s the case, what of it? Whichever way you look at it, Sonia Gandhi could end up being the PM.
But who am I to complain. I didn’t go and cast my vote. I suspect millions like me - educated, intelligent and informed people - didn’t vote either. Maybe in an year or two when the Sonia led coalition collapses, these millions will wake up and vote.
Or am I just dreaming. Remnants of Sleepy Head?
